Who & Why

The short answer is: because of Christ.

After what He has done for us, what wouldn’t we do for Him?!

Our passion is to be a part of a fellowship that makes much of Jesus Christ. A place where we’d personally see and experience God’s hand at work in our world, changing lives—a place where those changed lives would in turn, be used by God to change the lives of others. And that is really a summary of Christ’s two biggest bottom lines, “Love God and love others.” Pretty simply, that’s our “who & why.”

And here’s how it began in the form of Harvest Bible Chapel…

In 1988, a small group of people began meeting in the northwest suburbs of Chicago to share their vision for a church committed to presenting God’s truth in a contemporary, yet uncompromising way. After five months of prayer, they called James MacDonald as the founding pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel and identified the four pillars this church would be built upon:

  • Proclaiming the authority of God’s Word without apology—2 Timothy 4:2
  • Lifting high the name of Jesus through worship—John 4:24
  • Believing firmly in the power of prayer—Ephesians 6:18
  • Sharing the good news of Jesus with boldness—Ephesians 6:19-20

In 1997, after nearly 10 years of significant ministry growth, God led the elders of the church toward a plan to begin a multiplying ministry through the planting of new churches. Today, through that ministry known as
Harvest Bible Fellowship, there are nearly 20.000 people attending the over 30 Harvest Bible Chapels around the United States, Canada, and overseas.

And Orlando? Our story began in 2007 when a number of believers gathered, much like that original group of 18 people, to pray and discuss the possibility of planting a Harvest Bible Chapel in Orlando. In January 2008, a core group started gathering regularly, giving birth to Harvest Bible Chapel Orlando.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share that vision with you—and we pray that you may become a part of that “who & why” too!
